Here's what ESPN had to say about Patrick Reed, the newest Masters Champion and hero to all those who think that such achievements overshadow life's other accomplishments:

           Patrick Reed will never be regarded among the signature athletes of his generation. He is built

            It was never going to be pretty with Patrick Reed, the golfer who collected more enemies than
            most on his stormy rise from boyhood prodigy to college bad boy to self-promoting PGA
            Tour winner to master of the Masters. Reed was kicked off his University of Georgia team,
             and nearly voted off his Augusta State team by his schoolmates, for offenses that ranged
             from alcohol-fueled misbehavior to an arrest for underage drinking to constantly talking 
             down to lesser teammates to alleged cheating infractions.

So, in your mind, does Mr. Reed and his boorish, frat-boy behavior share traits with any other golfer prominently mentioned in current news broadcasts?

Ah well, the image at the top of is the entrance to a now-empty church around the corner from our house in San Miguel de Allende that we passed on our way to a fantastic mezze dinner at Casa Blanco in Centro.

D e schutes River Headwaters, 1/2 mile below Little Lava Lake Outlet Temperatures soared into the 80s yesterday and we took advantage for our first paddle of the year. Little Lava Lake, the headwaters of the Deschutes River is 40 miles by road southwest (mostly west) of Bend. The northern route to the lake which caresses the northern shoulder of Mt. Bachelor was still closed for the annual winter-season shutdown, so we took the “southern” route through Sunriver, a drive of a little over 45 minutes on the mountain roads. On this Los Vagabundos tour, led by David Rico, we were joined by our buddies, Wendy and Richard Huntington. Departing SMA early afternoon by bus to the Mexico City airport, we arrived in Villahermosa, Tabasco (by air) late in the evening. Early the next morning, we had a 2-hour bus drive, mostly east and slightly south, to the archeological site of the Mayan City of Palenque , which flourished, as far as is presently known, from 200 BC to 800 AD. As of our visit, 1 square mile of a total of 10 square miles has been recovered from the jungle that overgrew the City after it was abandoned by the Mayans. The temperatures were in the high 90's.
